Set ignition correctly

A properly adjusted ignition is not rocket science, but it does require precision. The decisive factor is the ignition timing in relation to the piston position. This is usually specified in millimetres before TDC.

If this value is incorrect, the engine will either run too hard or too weakly. The breaker gap also plays a role because it influences when the spark occurs.

Tools such as a feeler gauge and dial gauge help you to work accurately instead of by feel. Once correctly adjusted, your engine will run more smoothly, start better and deliver the power it should.
